East Irish Sea CO2 storage projectJoint venture: CO2DeepStore and Peel Energy CCS
CO2 source: NW England, SW Scotland including the potential Hunterston project
Location: East Irish Sea
Project scope: Offshore storage of CO2
Funding: NER300 (EU) & DECC CCS Delivery Programme (UK)
Project status: Feasibility and pre-FEED
Project timetable: First potential injection 2016
Work is currently progressing on feasibility studies and funding applications to develop a potential CO2 storage site in the East Irish Sea. Depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea could be used to store CO2 from Ayrshire Power’s proposed 1852MWe supercritical clean coal power station at Hunterston on the West Coast of Scotland along with other emissions sources, in a future North West England regional CCS cluster development. Peel Energy CCS has submitted a bid for funding support through the European Union’s NER 300 demonstration CCS funding competition.
CO2DeepStore would be the Operator for the storage venture and Petrofac would provide offshore engineering, modification and operations services to the storage venture through its Group businesses.
